1952   Born in Singapore  
1975 - 1978 Attended the Royal College of Music, London 23
1979 - 1981   Chorus member, Bayreuth Festival Opera, Germany 27
1980 Attended masterclass with renowned baton-wielder Sergiu Celibidache and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra 28
1981   Joined Singapore Symphony Orchestra as assistant conductor and chorus master 29
1981-1983   Conductor of Singapore Youth Choir  
1983 Received British Council scholarship for advance conducting course at Guildhall School of Music and Drama 31
1984   Attended Franco Ferrara's conducting course at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy 32
1986 - 1990 Conductor of Singapore Broadcasting Corporation choir 34
1990   Awarded the Cultural Medallion. Co-founded Singapore Lyric Theatre (now known as Singapore Lyric Opera). Took over Singapore Youth Orchestra. 38
1994 Founded the Philharmonic Chorus (now The Philharmonic Chamber Choir) 42
1997   Resigned from Singapore Symphony Orchestra 45
Nov 2000 Signed on as full-time member of Singapore Symphony Orchestra 48
