Organised Tours:
Downtown:
- Esplanade : try get a ticket to a show - the concert hall is more impressive than the theatre but both are great. There's also a lot of places to eat around here and a few shops (NOT impressive). The weekend (from Friday to Sunday eve) is when this place is buzzing most.
Areas to Visit:
- Chinatown - you can do a fair amount of shopping here
- Little India - very interesting. Avoid on Sundays when it's wall to wall foreign workers
- Arab Street - nice mosque there and a few interesting shops
- Boat Quay - this is a real tourist trap which has gone downhill over the years. It's got a lot of atmosphere and lets you eat by the river but it might be a bit too noisy or pushy for some people.
- Clark Quay & River Point - just down the river from Boat Quay - walking distance. There are a few nice restaurants here but ingnore anything you read about these places as tourist destinations now - there's a lot of construction going on and the place is pretty dead.
Museums:
- Art Museum on Bras Basah Rd not far from Chijmes
- Fort Canning Park - war museum - quite interesting
- Asian Civilisations Museum - Armenian Street not far from National Library Building
- Asian Civilisations Museum - Empress Place next to Victoria Concert Hall
- National Heritage Board - Current Exhibitions - http://www.museum.org.sg/
Fun & Crazy:
- Trishaw Ride : can pick one up near Boat Quay or Raffles City: Bargain with these guys - don't let them rip you off!
- Reverse Bungy at Clark Quay http://www.gmax.com.sg/
A Bit Farther Away:
Sentosa:
- Cablecar ride from Mount Faber http://www.cablecar.com.sg/
- On the island: when you get there, make sure you get a map of the island (handed out for free usually with your ticket)
- take the monorail first and make one loop - that way you can spot things you might like to see
Stuff I recommend is:
- Butterfly Park
- Underwater World - there's a touching pool!
- Fort Siloso war museum
- The Rare Rock Museum , the weirdest and coolest museum I've ever been too, is unfortunately long closed - this entry for posterity.
